Within the last few years Energy Drinks have become increasingly more popular. But not everyone wants or needs that extra boost. There are many people who are naturally hyperactive and could use a bit of a wind down instead.
With this in mind, there are two companies that have come out with there own versions of an "Anti-Energy Drink." These drinks are infused with herbs and other calming ingredients including theanine, chamomile, valerian root, passiflora and melatonin.
The two drinks that I have come across are called Slow Cow, made in Canada and Drank, made here in the U.S.A.

Drank is endorsed by many members of the hip-hop community, including Keri Hillson who is shown sipping the beverage in one of her recent music videos. Drank is reported to be hitting 7/11 Stores across the Country throughout this year and is marketed as the first extreme relaxatio
n drink, with it's catch phrase, "Slow Your Roll."
I have never been a huge fan of energy drinks and feel about the same when it comes to these new anti-energy drinks. I would be curious to try one of the the drinks to see how it works, but there are many other natural methods of relaxation that I would feel more comfertable using, things like meditaion, deep breathing or just winding down and watching a movie. Also items like these tend to have unknown side effects because they are not fully inspected by the FDA and I would be very cautious when trying these new beverages as well as energy drinks currently on the market.

Really interesting topic. I had no idea that there was such a thing as Anti-Energy Drinks. I'd be interested to see how they really work. Energy drinks make people jittery so I wonder if these drinks will make you feel like you've reached your "place of zen".
ReplyDeleteHave you ever heard about the energy drink company that got shut down recently because traces of cocaine were found in their drinks?
I have honestly never heard of an Anti-energy drink. I feel like the side effects would be weird, like a Nyquil effect or something. Regular energy drinks make me feel awful, so I can only imagine what these drinks would do.
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool topic! I also have never heard of either of these drinks (let alone the whole market for them). Come to think of it, it doesn't sound like such a bad idea. I have a friend who is always having trouble sleeping, and sometimes resorts to sleeping pills; maybe this type of thing could help a person like him. Honestly, I wouldnt mind trying one. It sounds like its kinda neat.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this post Andrea because I drink energy drinks all the time but have never looked into anti energy drinks when I can’t sleep at night. Although I don’t agree with these only because there are cheaper ways to calm yourself down I would like to maybe try one sometime. Great post Andrea!
ReplyDeleteWhat will people think of next? It's kind of scary to think that people are basically self-medicating with stuff like this. Rather than sleeping more or eating better for more energy, people are pumping tons of caffeine and sugar into their bodies. (Not that I haven't had an energy drink or coffee in my life). And now people who can't calm down are self-medicating with "anti-energy" drinks. So much for reading a book, or working out the energy. Hopefully if it's herbal stuff in the drinks its at least better than sugar and caffeine.
ReplyDeleteWow. I have never even hear od an anit-energy drink or seen them in convience stores around here. I mean, many people drink energy drinks to get that quick boost and to get them through the day, so why not try something to maybe help you relax at night? I personally wouldnt try them just because I am not a big fan of energy drinks and would go for an anternative way to get my energy fix or to relax. Great topic though, I bet many people don't know it exists!
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else, I have never heard of a anti-energy drink. I dont think i would ever buy or consume one of these drinks but i guess if there are people looking for stuff like this than it is right up their ally. Like Melissa above said, maybe at night to relax, but I have other ways to relax at night and a anti-energy drink is not one of them..
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this until now. I don't know if I necessarily agree with it or not, but then again I don't really consume too many energy drinks. I think its somewhat stupid though that they need to invent all these different drinks and things to boost or lower energy when we as humans could just get these effects from food sources. Many people are just too lazy to do the research and find out what foods/nutrients may have these same effects without putting chemicals into their bodies. I really don't know who would consume these, but I bet there are definitely people out there.
ReplyDeleteThis is funny. This society perplexes me. Nobody is ever happy. They come out with a product and counter-product for everything. You walk down one aisle at the store, there's all these products for losing weight. You walk down the next aisle, and there's weight gainer supplements. I guess that same logic applies to energy drinks.
ReplyDeleteRiddilin in a drink! What a great concept. I do agree that there are some people out there who have WAY too much energy and those people need to be calmed down. I'm definitely not one of them.
